Ok, ok. Every How You Doin’? pulls on my heartstrings. It makes me really happy that everyone I reached out to thus far is delighted to answer any Qs. And also, it’s so lovely and warming to reconnect with people with a simple DM/text!
Case in point: Jessica + Raevyn. I can go on about how much these ladies impacted my life, but I’ll save that another time. This is what I love about this series. It’s refreshing to catch up, hear how other people are coping, and just asking genuine questions. I don’t do this for the content, no, god no.
Honestly, I just want to share everyone’s experience dealing with different things. It’s nice to be heard, and it’s nice to just listen. It allows us to realize, “Look, we’re not alone! Our feelings are all valid! We all might be feeling the same way!” So thank you x3000.
Some days are great. Some days are meh. And some are crippling. But lately, I’ve been in a good headspace, thankfully!
The first couple of months of the stay at home order were pretty easy for me as I’m a big homebody. Can’t say the same for recently as I’m going a little stir-crazy! Trying my best to stay positive and keep busy.
We’re in the seventh freaking month of the year/fifth month of quarantining (wild), how are you curbing cabin fever?
Jessica: Biking! I’m so happy that I decided to invest in a bike during SIP. Running is definitely not my cardio exercise of choice, so biking has been a fun way to move my body while soaking in some vitamin D. I tend to be pretty anxious and annoyingly over-analytical, so biking gives me the chance to get out of my own head and be more present.
Raevyn: Before quarantine, I was big into reselling clothes on Poshmark, but with thrift stores shutting down that had to be put on hold, which was a bummer because I really enjoy the thrifting hunt. With my biggest hobby being gone, I found new things (a Cricut machine!) to keep me busy, which helped a lot.
Has quarantine taught you anything about yourself or something new in general you would’ve never thought twice about before?
Jessica: Quarantine has confirmed that I really am an introvert. I love my alone time and that my “social battery” isn’t drained. But quarantine has also highlighted the importance of mental health. So I’ve learned to regularly check-in and reconnect with myself via journaling and quiet meditations in the morning. Also, limiting my scrolling time!
Jess, what’s one thing that’s been annoying af this week (or last), and what’s the best thing that happened to you this week (or last)?
Annoying AF
Seeing people wear masks with their noses exposed. Seriously, what is the point?
Best Thing
I finalized all designs for a business I’m working on. It feels so good knowing that 3 weeks ago, I was crying over it, and now I’m moving forward.
What’s it like to raise your little girl right now during this wild, wild time? What has been the biggest parenting curveball thrown at you?
Raevyn: We’ve always talked to Winter like we would an adult, so when everything started, we explained about the virus & why we can’t do park trips and other activities anymore, she seems to understand, and I think our honesty about the situation helped make this easier for her.
My daughter was set to start preschool. That was really exciting for us. So, for it to be taken away has been really hard. Kids need interaction with other kids, so keeping her stimulated has been a big challenge.
How or what do you do to set some time just for YOU and only you? Essentially, your me-time.
Raevyn: Once my husband gets home, he takes over with Winter, and I bolt it to the room for some downtime lol! Messy reality tv shows are my guilty pleasure and serve as an escape from the very scary reality we are all facing right now. Practicing a good self-care routine involving skin, hair, etc. keeps me feeling refreshed and happy.
