If you haven’t watched the latest season of Netflix’s Emily in Paris, here is your 🚨spoiler alert🚨.
Emily in Paris brought us back to Paris and introduced a new city, Rome, for season 4. We picked up right where it left off. You all remember… Camille’s sudden pregnancy, a wedding, a breakup with Alfie, a possible Michelin star, and many other chaotic storylines, right?
With the first half of the season dropping in mid-August and the second half now out, fans (like myself) eagerly waited for the episodes to drop. While the show is binge-worthy thanks to its unbelievable storylines, many things just didn’t make sense. (But, honestly, when does it ever?)
Here is the good, the bad, and the in-between of Season 4 of Emily in Paris
In the second half of the season, we were introduced to Sylvie’s husband’s estranged daughter, Genevieve, from New York. She came to Paris to start her career but ended up working at Sylvie’s marketing agency. Her character lacked substance until around episode 7, when she incorrectly translated a fight between Gabriel and Emily. It seemed like Genevieve was meant to be Gabriel’s next love interest, but her cringeworthy attempts failed to win him over. She was kind of pointless, and I’m curious to see if she’ll continue being in future seasons.
Camille’s pregnancy storyline seemed to be a significant plot point, but it was quickly resolved when it was revealed to be a false pregnancy. She then expressed her desire to adopt a child, but her situationship with Gabriel didn’t lead to adoption. It seems like Camille’s story wrapped up neatly, and her future involvement in the show is uncertain. Let us not forget that the woman she was previously in a relationship with disappeared without Camille even fighting for her to stay. TBH, I enjoyed Camille Razat’s character, and I hope this isn’t a complete goodbye.
Sylvie’s romantic storyline became confusing after her estranged husband, Laurent, reappeared in the earlier seasons. Despite being married, she continued to engage in affairs. Look, I’m all for Sylvie living her best life, but I’m honestly quite confused with the whiplash of her own will they/won’t they.
We all recently discovered Alfie moved on from Emily and started dating someone else. This may be the end of Alfie’s storyline, as there isn’t a way for him to reconcile with Emily. Romantically, at least. Sure, he could be a background character, but even his attempts to be part of Emily’s friend group feel wrong! There will always be that lingering elephant between Gabriel and Alfie in the room. Thanks, Cooper.
Mindy’s storyline took an unexpected turn when she was invited to be a judge and performer on Chinese Popstar. I smell a redemption story arc for her, but you know what? Ashley Park’s character deserves the world. She’s been thrown downright unfair battles (her current boyfriend’s dad’s disapproval, disqualification of Eurovision, her estranged father, etc.), and she needs a win!
Can we just give this up already? We tried this. In the beginning, I was all in for Gabriel, but I’m now kind of over it. Please. What are they going to do differently that they haven’t done already?
A new character, Marcello Muratori (Eugenio Franceschini), was introduced as Nicolas’ friend. His family turned out to be quite influential, and with him now in the mix, it adds a new dynamic to the show. Not only a new dynamic but a new CITY?
The show pivoted to Rome in the second half of season 4, with Emily landing a deal to lead the Rome office. While this shift to a new location was interesting, it left some of me feeling bad for Luc and Julien, who were more capable of running the office. For god sake, can someone please listen to Luc?!
