The other night after watching an episode of Unsolved Mysteries, I needed an upbeat, happy movie to get me through the night. Hello, Disney+! I saw the thumbnail for Get A Clue, and it brought a wave of nostalgia in that quick second. Um, hello! Lindsey Lohan stan over here.
Rewatching it now as an adult made me think back to when I watched this movie as a kid. I still remember the majority line-by-line, and their clothes were iconic. Also, at that time, I was a huge Brenda Song fan. How can anyone get her iconic character in Stuck in the Suburbs?!?!
Get A Clue made me go full-on spy mode. Maybe that’s how I got my start as a wanna-be FBI. I don’t know. Seems very likely. But I strongly remember ordering (with the help of my mom, of course) a spy listening device just like the movie even though I don’t think it worked.
Maybe I was so drawn to the movie because Lindsey was a journalist investigating a story, and the idea of going undercover and finding out secrets sounded like a thrill. (Also why I’m so good at internet-stalking when push comes to shove)
One of the main reasons that pop up into my head of why I loved the movie as a kid was seeing how badass Lindsey’s character, Lexy, was. She was fearless and kicked ass, man. She was, for sure, bougie, something I could never relate to, but she was still a charming human being! Full disclaimer: I still laugh at the scene where her bracelet gets stuck on a random pipe and pleads for help from Jack, but I digress.
Watching it now, I cringe at some scenes, but man, as a kid, this movie was everything. I always had it on repeat.
Get A Clue may look like trash now, but wow, that was my everything back then. There are many other DCOM originals since then, but let’s not get into the fact that nothing will be like DCOMs from the past. (UM HELLO, MOTOCROSSED?!?!)
TG for Disney+. Go watch Get A Clue now & thank me later!
